The vast majority of multifuel and wood burning stoves have a built in airwash system. This usually consists of a primary and secondary air inlet at the top and the base of the stove. These inlets are normally operated by two sliding pieces of the cast iron but sometimes both the primary and secondary inlets can be operated by one slider. The purpose of an airwash system is to let in air from the top and bottom of the stove so that it can be heated by the flames and then forces past the glass window. When the air is forced past the glass window it helps to keep the glass free from soot and tar deposits giving you excellent views of the flames.
